Bosses

I have an great Boss. I have been very fortunate that my past few bosses have been rather great. They are great leaders and know how to inspire people. A lot of times that same inspiration turns into suffocating. 

"I forgot to do something"

My boss was pissed. Not suffocating just upset. See the thing about my boss is that she was upset not because I didn't do the items that she assigned but she is upset because she believed in me and I had failed her. The talk started out as a stern talk. Then she started to inspire me again and then realized that I she really wasn't my boss. She was something more than a boss, a mentor. I was inspired by how much she cared. It wasn't the words but is was her caring nature and how much she wanted me to succeed. She didn't have a hidden agenda, she spoke from the heart. The numbers which really matter to an Inspirational Leader are turnover and loyalty. Her people are loyal. In the field that we work in the average annual turnover rate sits between 90%-110%. Her turnover sits around 25%.

Remember to care for your employees because without them you can not get anything accomplished.

The industrial Age of thinking

Are you a Manager that thinks of his people as an expense on a P&L? Do you think of your equipment as a asset. Your people as an expense? If you do, you really need to have a gut check. In this day and age if you do not have the heart and the passion of your people. Your biggest asset (your employees) will drag down your business results. Labor Expenses is usually in the top 3 of any small, medium or large size business. Mostly the biggest expense is your employees. The hidden cost of having an employee is not salary or bonuses but insurance, theft, and other benefits like matching 401k plans and other contributions. Your people can be an asset if you use your leverage and influence to motivate them.

In 1900, the industrial age of thinking was to push your people to perform, they are just a machine just like any piece of equipment. The difference thou is that people were replaceable, it cost money to buy and operate a piece of equipment.  Have you ever felt you are replaceable at a job or has anyone ever told you this? I sure have. The industrial age brought the biggest improvement over humanity since well the agricultural age.

2010 - New Beginings

Each new year is a new fresh start. In 2010 you can make anything happen. Start making your dreams turn into reality. If you your dream is to get promoted at work, than work with your boss or person your report to about getting a plan together to get promoted. If your dream is to go on a vacation. Start budgeting and make it happen. If your dream is to go to school (my dream), than get enrolled. 2010 is about not holding back and pushing yourself to be the best. Start writing down your dreams, turn them into goals, after that start making objectives and everything you do from this point on will be for the reality of your dreams.

2010 is about new beginnings.

I believe that attitude is everything in what we do. If you have a bad attitude than everything else you do in life will fail. Failure can either teach or break a person. Attitude is one thing that people choose to ignore after failing again and again. If they change the attitude not only will they change the outcome, but they will change the feeling within themselves as well as the other people who have shed blood and tears with them, after this a failure becomes a success even if you fail, and fail again. This may sound confusing and absurd but having the feeling within yourself and others will make anything possible. As with the the saying. "Impossible is nothing" ---with a great attitude.
